Coach clinic post tasks

As you are aware certification at Coach Stream and Developmental I require attendance at the clinic plus post task completion.  Delegates will be considered in compliance with the above regulations upon completion of the NCCP’s clinic requirements and are given until March 30, 2010 to complete the post task. Failure to complete the post task by March 30, 2010 will result in certification standards not being met for the following season.

In the case where the post task has not been successfully completed by March 30, 2010, the coach will be required to once again attend the clinic and complete the post task to be eligible to coach in the subsequent season.

Delegates who attended either a Hybrid (Coach Stream) or Developmental 1 clinic from 2004-05 to last season must submit a post task (for Developmental 1) and or the Coach Hybrid MHA Verification form (for Coach Hybrid) to the BC Hockey office by March 30, 2010 to meet certification standards for next season. The implementation of the above regulations supersedes any statement that may have been made to delegates in previous seasons that the completion of the post task is not mandatory.

Hybrid clinic post tasks needs to be signed off by the Craig Sherbaty. Please contact him directly via email to set up a time to have it signed off.

Developmental 1 post task gets sent into BC Hockey directly.

If you have misplaced your coach hybrid or developmental 1 post task, a new one can be printed from the BC Hockey website at http://www.bchockey.net/Coaching/Resources.aspx.

We trust this to be in order, however if you have any questions please contact your BC Hockey District Coach Coordinator. All contacts can be found at: http://www.bchockey.net/contacts.

Body checking Principles

  • Try to an angle on your opponent
  • Checkers speed must be under control
  • Knees are bent
  • Keep eyes on the chest area of opponent
  • The purpose of body checking is to block the progress of the puck carrier, not to knock him off his or put him though the boards
  • Never skate with your head down

Shoulder Check

  • Keep skates shoulder width apart
  • Keep knees bent with weight on the inside edges
  • Keep head up at all times
  • Make contact with shoulder and side of body into opponent's chest
  • Always remember two steps or less before making contact

Hip Check

  • Your opponent must be on course that he can't deviate from
  • Watch body, not puck
  • Keep knees bent
  • Keep head and shoulders lowered
  • Rotate hips into stomach area of opponent

Checking Along Boards

  • Angle puck carrier towards boards
  • Always keep two hands on stick, keep stick close to the ice
  • Checker aims at hands of puck carrier just in front of body
  • Keep skates moving, until opponent is pinned against the boards
  • Keep body low, legs spread for balance
