Surrey Minor Hockey Association organizes players from the ages 4 - 20 to play hockey for the sport of it. The association draws its players from an area that encompasses the north west part of the City of Surrey in the Province of British Columbia, Canada. In the 2008 - 2009 season, we have 1050 players playing on 65 teams. We are one of the largest minor hockey associations in British Columbia. Our home games are primarily played at the North Surrey Recreation Centre and Newton Recreation Centre. SMHA ElectionsSurrey Minor Hockey Association will be holding elections on February 10, 2010 to fill seven (7) positions and form the elected council. Read the Notice of Elections to see how to get involved in the running your association. The Nomination Committee has has put forward the names of the following persons to serve on the elected Executive Council for Surrey Minor Hockey Association. The Nomination Committee list of recommendations for the election is now available on the web site. The full list of candidates has been finalized for the upcoming election. Review the list to see which candidates are running for which positions. Coaching clinics and HCSP (Hockey Canada Safety Program) ClinicsThese clinics being proposed by SMHA are subject to approval by BC Hockey. Once approved, they will appear on the BC Hockey web site under clinics. Registration for the coaching and HCSP clinics is done at this site as well. New Helmet Regulations for On Ice Team OfficialsEffective December 1, 2008 BC Hockey sanctioning for minor hockey practices requires that all on-ice participants wear a CSA approved helmet. Special Event Ice CancellationsPeriodically, there are some special events that are held in the arenas that host our home games. In order to hold these events, it requires us to re-schedule some of our regular ice times. When we have these special events, a list of ice cancellations is posted giving any replacement ice, if applicable. The Special Event Ice Cancellations list is accessible from the Ice Schedule page. If you have an ice time that is on the list and has been re-scheduled, you will be responsible to notify, in the case of games, the other team and the league of the change. Be sure to check back often as these special events come up throughout the season. Updated Goaltender Equipment Size RegulationsHockey Canada has delayed the implementation of the new size regulations for goaltender equipment until the 2009 - 2010 season. For the specifics on the size limitations, refer to the Hockey Canada bulletin.
