In what has become a series for the ages, Surrey Thunder U13 A1, the underdogs with the odds stacked against them, took on Abbotsford A1, a team that has had their number throughout the regular season with lopsided wins.  Hard work, determination and an excellent coaching staff resulted in Surrey’s U13 A1 playing in the Tier 1 final 4 in over A DECADE!

The boys went in hungry to compete in Game 1 and surprised their opponents with sustained attack through the 1st, coming away with a goal advantage.  After taking a 2 goal lead, the boys went into defensive mode and shut down the opponents attack with excellent defensive play and stellar goaltending.  Game 1 went down as 2-1 win for Surrey.

Abbotsford came out guns blazing for game 2 but despite their best efforts Surrey scored first.  In what was a lopsided game with Abbotsford almost doubling the shot count, our goalie stood on his head to hold on to a 2-2 tie.

Game 3 was another tight battle with both teams going back and forth with scoring chances.  Our boys broke through in the second period with 2 goals in quick succession and a 3rd goal in the third period.  Abbotsford continued to pile on the pressure but could only put one behind our goalie.  Surrey prevailed and moves on to the final 4 with the 3-1 victory!

Congrats boys, congrats parents and congrats coaches!  All the best in the finals.
